(C19) [ASWT / シンジケート (よろず)] TEA TIME VOL. 1 - 珈琲時刻 機動戦士ガンダム特集号 PART - 1 (1981) 昭和 56 年

An extremely rare doujinshi by the mangaka Ren Kishida featuring an onslaught of important yaoi / BL Aniparo artists of their day. Released under the circle Syndicate, this particular issue of Tea Time is a reprint of the original manuscripts that were published in early 1980 by many of the contributing artists. Managed in part by a Miho-Chan, this text was mainly funded and edited by the mangaka Ren Kishida when she was just in junior high school. Ren had already established herself by 1979 from her then already fast paced career as a self published mangaka as well as an artist who drew manuscripts for various imprints. Kishida's early imprints were known for their high production quality and desirability even at Comiket due to her unique style, and with her connections to various FCs, this work was initially developed under the circle ASWT, which had already dissolved for unknown reasons to be relaunched as Syndicate.

Many of the artists who contributed to this text were already very well known and important upon its re-release, such as Shio Sato (Haruka Sato / Simone Yotsuya), Mari Hibiki, Rio Yagizawa and Hayato Naitō. As several imprints of Tea Time haven't come to light, a collection of prior works was compiled into a 200+ page tome called 'Waltz Time', many of which had color manuscripts and were limited to 300 copies.

Based on my personal conversations with Kishida, the original vol.1 of Tea Time was limited to just 300 copies on its first print run for ASWT, which she loosely described as being a yaoi compilation work that was marketed as an 'animation journal'. This particular volume was limited to around 300 copies as well and was immediately sold out on its re-launch at Comiket. Per Miho-chan's words:

"After publishing that immortal “notorious masterpiece,” the Gundam Special Part II “Waltz Time!”, we heard many voices saying, “We want to read Part I too!”

And so, in response, we’ve brought you this reprint of the Gundam Special PART-2 “Coffee Time!”

Congratulations, everyone!

The group ASWT, which originally published this, has already dissolved.
However, a new organization called the “Syndicate” has been launched with almost the same members!

Starting with a special issue on exam-prep strategies, we plan to keep pumping out doujin activities one after another. So anyway—please keep supporting us!!

But, well… this time we did redraw a few little things here and there…"

These particular works suffer from a general lack of exposure due to their then high production costs and limited availability. I acquired this particular volume with my collaborator Kamoogy from Mandarake, though it came from the collection of C.P. Garlic (Captain Garlic), who sold some important volumes to Mandarake during her moving sale last year. Presented in 4K/HD and true to scale for the first time in well, the first time.
